Facing the most sustained student protest in Canadian history, Quebec’s provincial government weighed emergency legislation Thursday aimed at ending rallies and demonstrations against rising tuition costs.
Authorities said 122 were arrested late Wednesday as thousands of demonstrators spilled into the streets of Montreal, with some smashing bank windows and hurling objects at police. Protests have been going on for three months.
Quebec Premier Jean Charest said the proposed legislation would not roll back the tuition hikes. Rather, it would temporarily halt the spring semester at faculties paralyzed by walkouts and push up the summer holidays. Classes would resume earlier in August. [READ MORE]
Some of the draconian measures in this bill:
Any demonstration involving 10 or more people in a public place requires the time, date, duration, venue and route plus means of transportation to be disclosed in advance to police. (!!!)
Anyone who violates the act and is found guilty can be fined between $1,000 and $5,000 for each day he or she broke law. That fine rises to between $7,000 and $35,000 for student leaders and $25,000 to $125,000 for student or employee associations or federations.
If an association fails to comply with the act, the government can order an educational institution to cease to provide it with space, furniture and display areas free of charge.
Students are no longer required to make any financial contributions to student associations

“Saint” Trayvon Martin had Marijuana in his system.
Yeah defiantly not a saint. It’s now a fact that Mr. Martin smoked marijuana. Therefore he isn’t the good little boy that the media portrays him to be. I’m all for legalization of Marijuana, but the media painted a pretty little picture that Trayvon was a good boy that never did any wrong. I’m sure that more will come out in this case. Let’s keep a close eye on this case, and not let an innocent man get the death penalty.

The media dialogue on DAY 2 of the Trayvon incident was “well he had been suspended from school for smoking pot!” “he took photos looking like a ‘gangsta’!” “i heard zimmerman had to get stitches because trayvon overpowered him and he was just SAVING HIS OWN LIFE, guys!”
It has ALWAYS been “well Trayvon wasn’t perfect!!!” from the fucking racists trying to let a murderer walk free. When a Black boy dies, our fucked-up racist media does not default to “I’m sure he was a good upstanding citizen, how could some monster have done this?!” That luxury if only afforded to pretty young white women who die. Right away, it was “hey it’s not like George Zimmerman killed a straight-A valedictorian with a full ride to Harvard!”

I’d like them just to cast some black people. I don’t know why… Can they cast some black folk? I mean, I know that that’s simplistic. But I do think that it would be great if every show would represent the world. There’s Asians, there’s Native Americans, there’s black people, there’s Latinas–there’s more than just white people in the world. If you’re gonna do a show in a metropolitan area like New York, you need to have some color. Pick your color, it doesn’t matter, just put some color. I think more people of color, all the races that are underrepresented need to be more on television,period.
